Kunio-kun is known in the West for the River City Ransom games, but in Japan, they have various other titles, such as ones that involve school athletic festivals, and more. The latest one is a sequel on the 3DS, and it’s based on Japanese historic plays. Famitsu shares a first look.
As previously reported, Downtown Hot-Blooded Historic Play (Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki) is a sequel to the original Downtown Special: Kunio-kun’s Historic Play every Gather! (Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki Dayo Zeninshugo!) which released for the Famicom
The upcoming 3DS sequel adds a new “Katana Action” feature, where you’ll get to run around as Kunio and his buddies, while swinging swords around; however, these powerful weapons use up a lot of stamina, and you won’t be able to bring it back if your energy runs out.
The game also has a mission mode and battle royale mode, to go with the main story mode. You can play with up to four players in local connectivity for battle royale.
Downtown Hot-Blooded Historic Play will release for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on May 28, 2015.
