La-Mulana is back and its developers are hoping to make a full-on sequel. The 2D pixel-art side-scrolling action-adventure game was certainly great for those who got to play it, and now developers Nigoro have taken to Kickstarter to raise funds for their hoped-for full on sequel, La-Mulana 2: The 0th Body The 9th Spirit.

The direct sequel will see Lumisa Kosugi hunting down the return of monsters at the ruins of Eg-Lana, some five years after the events of the last game. With the destruction of the last game’s ruins, one would have thought the origin of all civilization would have ended its run at last. Not so, perhaps, with the sightings of monsters returning to haunt the ruins. Mother still lives, perhaps, and Lumisa will have to explore Eg-Lana, an area previously used for a penal colony on the other side of the La-Mulana ruins.

Nigoro estimates that newcomers will be able to spend at least 20 hours or more before they’ll beat the game and they’re tantalizingly close to funding right now with about a week to go so if you’re interested it’s best to back first and help it along. You’ll be able to explore such new locales as the World of the Fairies, the Roots of Yggdrasil and even the Immortal Battlefield of Midgard as some of the proposed areas.

La-Mulana 2: The 0th Body The 9th Spirit is expected for PC.
