According to the YOASOBI Twitter account, the short story helps to further accentuate the lyrics of “The Blessing.” The lyrics focus on the bond between Suletta and her mobile suit, Gundam Aerial. In the song, Aerial thinks about Suletta’s past and present, and how they are always going to be together. It also details Aerial’s wishes for her to make her own way through life, free from Elnora’s influence.

You can watch the music video for the opening of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury below.

Ichiro Okouchi, who is in charge of the series composition and screenplay for The Witch from Mercury, wrote the short story. Its title translates loosely to “The Cradling Planet.” Like the song, it is written from Gundam Aerial’s perspective. It mostly features interactions with Suletta over the years. Aerial watches as Suletta matures from a young girl crying in his cockpit to a strong-willed pilot. Despite her doubts and Aerial’s own trepidation about Suletta’s mother, Suletta makes her decision to go to school and leave Mercury, with Aerial’s blessings.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury premiered on October 2, 2022 in Japan. It is simulcasting on Crunchyroll, as well as other services globally.
