Live2D announced that it released Live2D Cubism SDK for Nintendo Switch, a software development kit that allows game developers to integrate 2D assets made with Live2D Cubism 3 into projects for Switch.

Here’s a description from Live2D about the new dev kit:

Live2D Cubism SDK for Nintendo Switch is a runtime library for developing Nintendo Switch games on Unity game engine. The SDK allows developers to develop games with Live2D assets on Unity while leveraging on the console’s strong capability.

Developers can now use the Live2D Cubism SDK for Nintendo Switch by logging into the Nintendo Developer Portal to find “Live2D” in the list of supported middleware tools.

With Live2D, developers can animate a character exactly the way they’re drawn without having to create 3D models or draw every single frame. It uses illustrations prepared in layers that are then used to create models for games, movies, apps, and more. Previously, Nintendo (Intelligent Systems) used Live2D Cubism for titles such as Fire Emblem Fates that used it for 3D character models.
