One of the more creative games I’ve got my hands on is a homebrew Nintendo DS game called Everlasting Love. The concept is deceptively simple guide a monkey from the start of the level to the end only by jumping, no walking. Things get tricky because the monkey jumps to the beat of the song and the closer you are on beat the higher the monkey jumps. Usually in music/rhythm games you want to be as close to on beat as possible, but that’s not the case in Everlasting Love. Early in the first level there is a section where you have to pass through a narrow area with spikes on top. If you press A on beat you’re going to hit the spikes and have to restart from a checkpoint. To pass through the spiked celling you have to be completely off beat for three jumps in a row. Clever! Later on you have to master (or is it not master?) your beat timing to grab floating blocks so you don’t fall into water. It’s difficult, but you have unlimited lives. The real goal is to get through the stage with as few jumps as possible. There are only two levels of Everlasting Love online and the creator picked two catchy songs for the stages, “Everlasting Love” from We Love Katamari and "Tomorrow Hill" from Wario Ware: Smooth Moves.
