Magic Has Two Uses In The Last Story

The Last Story has a unique gathering system where players draw monsters away from mages invoking a spell with Elza. A scan from Shonen Jump explains magic has two uses in Mistwalker’s fantasy Wii game.

Before you can take advantage of either effect you need to set a magic circle. This zone is the area of impact for the spell. Elza can stretch the zone with a wind power ability so it can reach more enemies. Jump shows an example of an ice spell reaching out towards enemies.

When used as a support spell, magic circles can also imbue weapons with elemental attributes. This allows weapon wielding mercenaries to strike enemy elemental weak points, if you cast the right spell.

While powerful and apparently versatile, magic can be canceled if a spellcaster is hit. Good thing Elza is around with his blue aura glowing gathering ability to get their attention.
