Super Smash Bros Ultimate Director Masahiro Sakurai decided to offer people an inside look at the sorts of gaming creations he makes in his own time. Namely, we got a chance to see two of his Dragon Quest Builders 2 creations. He said he shared it in honor of both Dragon Quest’s hero and Minecraft’s Steve being added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.‘s roster. [Thanks, Robert Sephazon and GoNintendo!]
Sakurai’s Dragon Quest Builders 2 video begins at the top of the mountain where you create your Builder’s Banner design that appears on your flag. He went with a Space Invaders Crab. (Which you could consider a callback to his “Game Design: Risk and Reward” presentation at GDC 2004.
The Buggy Buggy takes off from there and flies around a floating island that appears to be connected to the world below by a chain. He, Malroth, a Great sabrecub, and a Chimaera then exit the Buggy Buggy after it is parked in the island’s underground garage and heads up to the restaurant and building on the area above.
