Games inspired by Metroid’s interconnected worlds are starting to show up more frequently on the Nintendo 3DS. One of these games is Xeodrifter, which is being created by Mutant Mudds developer Renegade Kid, and just got its first trailer.   The trailer highlights just how heavily inspired by Metroid the game is. If you remember your Metroid, you’ll spot a reference to the Speed Booster, the Shinespark, and even a few enemies that look very reminiscent of those in the Metroid games.   Xeodrifter is the story of an interstellar drifter exploring out in space. During the game, he needs to investigate a cluster of four planets after a rogue asteroid damages his warp core. Similar to Mutant Mudds, Xeodrifter uses a “12-bit” art style, meaning that it’s somewhere in between the 8-bit style of the NES and 16-bit style of the SNES.   A release date for the game hasn’t been announced yet.
