Nintendo Is Restarting Metroid Prime 4 Development, Retro Studios Involved

Nintendo has just announced a new Metroid Prime 4 development update. A video starring Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo’s Senior Managing Executive Officer, has been released discussing the game’s progress. Unfortunately, the video notes that the game is not progressing as expected. Takahashi noted, “Ever since the [E3 2017] announcement, we have not been able to give you an update, but as a result of the continuing development since that time—although this is very regrettable—we must let you know that the current developmental progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series.”

Takahashi then said in the video that the company has the highest standards and, if a game isn’t looking like it will meet it, it needs to address it. When it comes to Metroid Prime 4, Nintendo will “re-examine the development structure itself and change it.” As part of this, Kensuke Tanabe, the Metroid Prime Producer, will be working with Retro Studios, who made the original Metroid Prime trilogy of games. The video then closes with an apology for the delay and an explanation that it may be a while until another update is released.

Here is the Metroid Prime 4 development update video.
