Bandai Namco did not provide a specific reason as to why the mobile title will be shutting down. Instead, the company has posted an end of service notice through its official website, with more information regarding the closure provided in-game. The title was confirmed for development in Japan in 2019. It subsequently received a worldwide release in March 2020.

One Piece Bon Bon Journey is a match-3 puzzle title. Various characters from the One Piece series appear. This includes Sanji, Luffy, Nami, and Zoro. The title featured stylized versions of these popular characters. Players can also customize their individual islands with various accessories.
