Overwatch Reaches 30 Million Registered Players

Blizzard announced today that their team-based online multiplayer shooter Overwatch has reached 30 million registered players since its launch in May 2016. Quite a feat for a game that isn’t even a year old.

Back in October 2016, Blizzard had Overwatch’s player count at 20 million and followed up in January with the 25 million milestone. The game has hit 30 million registered players just before its first anniversary next month on May 24.

It took Blizzard’s popular free-to-play card game Hearthstone about two years to hit the 50 million milestone. It should be interesting to see if Overwatch could catch 50 million within two years, despite being a retail game.

If you’re wondering what’s next, Jeff Kaplan recently mentioned on the official forums that the currently have three maps in development, and they’re looking likely for a release this year. They also have three non-standard maps in development (non-QP/Comp maps) as well as a few other experiments going on.

Overwatch is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
