This will be a Korean series, which means that the cast and staff are mostly from Korea. Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan) will be the director. It will star Jeon So-nee (Soulmate) as Jung Soo-in, Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula) as Seol Kang-woo, and Lee Jung-hyun (A Petal) as Choi Jun-kyung. The promotional poster for the show has Jeon’s character looking at the camera while a parasitic creature emerges from her face.

Parasyte was originally a manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki, which ran from 1989 to 1994. It focuses on high school senior Shinichi Izumi, who forms a co-operative relationship with a parasite that tried to take over his brain. He managed to prevent this from happening, sequestering the parasite into his right arm. There have been multiple adaptations for Parasyte, including two live-action films and an series series. It is one of the best-selling manga of all time.

According to a Netflix press release, the plot of Parasyte: The Grey will differ from the original manga. This is quite obvious even from the casting. While the manga starred a male high school student, the TV series will focus on a girl. Netflix states that the show will be “set in a locale with fresh characters” and that it’ll “chart its own unique course while maintaining the imaginative world and profound message of the beloved manga.”

Parasyte: The Grey will be an exclusive on Netflix and you’ll be able to watch it from April 5, 2024.
