This news comes days after PlatinumGames updated its website to tease the second announcement in the Platinum 4 project and only a few weeks after the January 2020 launch of The Wonderful 101 Remastered’s Kickstarter, which has been a dynamic success.

Project G.G. is a landmark title, as it is a completely new IP for PlatinumGames that the company will also self-publish. Chinese conglomerate Tencent offered to publish the title, but ultimately, PlatinumGames opted to self-publish, wanting full control and ownership of the IP and game.

In an interview with Famitsu, Kamiya said that this is “Platinum challenging what (the company) hasn’t challenged before.” He added that, “If Viewtiful Joe is like a Kamen Rider transformation, [and] if Wonderful 101 is a squadron,  Project G.G. is like a huge hero.”

In an interview with Famitsu, PlatinumGames Executive Director and Producer Atsushi Inaba noted that he wants to open up a hundred-person studio in Tokyo. He said that there are already about 15 people working on Project G.G., and that he would like for the new Tokyo studio to work on the game. Kamiya stated that he’s “the kind of creator who prefers to work together via Twitter” rather than via a studio.

The biggest surprise from Famitsu‘s interview came toward the end: Inaba noted that he wants to launch Project G.G. on all available platforms at this time.

There are still two unreleased announcements from PlatinumGames and the on-going Platinum4 initiative. Inaba notes that the last of the four is a big secret and will be “very interesting”.
