In contrast to many rave reviews on Dragon Quest VIII, Hardcore Gaming 101 presents an article with all of the problems in the game. Here’s an excerpt from the article: "When all of this comes together, it still leaves a game that, despite its visuals and rich sound quality, is still flat and boring. I am thoroughly convinced that these are the only reasons that Dragon Quest VIII is getting as much praise as it does. It certainly wouldn’t garner any attention if it looked like Dragon Quest VII, that is for sure. This is the type of game that is lauded for, once again, its charm. Yeah, charm will get you through two hours of a Meg Ryan movie. Charm does not last enough for a 60+ hour RPG, especially when it is little more than a huge level grind."
