Pokémon CEO Says 2019 Switch RPG Will Be Something Longtime Fans Have Waited For

With a new core Pokémon series RPG coming to Switch in the second half of 2019, The Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara shared tidbits of info in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

He started out with some talk on Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!:

  • “The reason we can release a new Pokémon game at this timing is because development started when the Switch launched.”

  • “The process and tempo of catching Pokémon Let’s Go is completely different. You can swing the Joy-Con with a single hand to toss the Poké Ball, so it has a much different feel to it.”

  • “In two-player the other player will get to help catch Pokémon.”

  • “We’re thinking about adding new Pokémon. Considering that it is a remake of Pokémon Yellow, we plan to add new elements such as Pokémon we’ll see for the first time to go with the new looks and play style.”

He then shared more on the upcoming Switch Pokémon RPG coming in 2019:

  • “The new title coming out in the second half of 2019 will be a completely different game [from Pokémon Let’s Go]. It is not an entry game, but a game that we want longtime fans of the Pokémon series to look forward to.”

  • “The game will give a good understanding of what an evolved Pokémon game looks like after it has continued to succeed the traditions of Game Freak.”

  • “We want to make Pokémon fans say ‘this is what I’ve been waiting for’ by delivering a brand-new product packed with gameplay elements and plenty of new Pokémon to encounter.”

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! release on November 16, 2018 for Nintendo Switch. The new core RPG title will release in the second half of 2019 for Switch.
