People playing Pokémon GO now have a new peripheral in their arsenal. Niantic has released the game on the Apple Watch. This is a companion app to the full Pokémon GO game, allowing data to be collected and certain activities undertaken without turning to your phone or tablet.
When using Pokémon GO on the Apple Watch, you have access to five features. Every time you go for a walk, you can count the play session as a workout for your Activity Rings. The distance you walk will count toward hatching eggs and collecting Candy from your current Buddy Pokémon. When an egg is hatched, you collect a medal, you are within range of a PokéStops, or a Pokémon appears nearby, you’ll receive notifications. You will also be able to collect items from PokéStops from your Apple Watch, without having to pull out your phone.
However, certain activities still require a phone or tablet with Pokémon GO. You can’t catch a Pokémon using the watch. You also can’t placing eggs in incubators, check the map to look around the vicinity and consult the tracker, manage your Pokémon, or alter your trainer.
Pokémon GO is available for Apple iOS and Android devices.
