On July 22, 2017, the Pokémon GO Fest will be held at Grant Park in Chicago, IL to celebrate the game’s one year anniversary. While it will be host to a number of challenges and events, the biggest news is the reveal of the game’s first Legendary Pokémon. Niantic says the first one may appear in Grant Park this weekend.
Attendees of Pokémon GO Fest could be the first to face the unknown Legendary Pokémon. If enough Pokémon are caught during the event’s Challenge Windows, the very first Legendary will appear. If the people at the event manage to defeat the Legendary, it will appear at Gym Raid Battles all around the world.
If that happens, Legendary Eggs will appear at Gyms, instead of the typical Raid Battle Eggs. When the Legendary Egg hatches, people can come together to try and defeat it. After being defeated, people who participated have a chance to try and catch the Legendary. They can then use that Pokémon to battle in Gyms, but can not place it in a Gym as a defender.
While the first Legendary has yet to be revealed, a new trailer hints at which characters could appear. The video Niantic released shows Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Lugia. Lugia gets the most screen time, and the example of him has CP 35,000.
Pokémon GO is available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
