Preview of Square-Enix’s E3 lineup

Square-Enix drops the ball on what they have planned for E3. The line up includes a bunch of Final Fantasy games such as, XII for the PS2, III for the DS and VI for the Game Boy Advance. The Mana series also returns with Dawn of Mana for the Playstation 2 and Children of Mana for the Nintendo DS. The biggest surprise in the line up is Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime, which is known as Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 in Japan. Check below for a preview of what you’ll be hearing more about come E3.

Playstation 2

Dawn of Mana – the first true Mana sequel reveals the origins of the Mana Tree and Sword of Mana. The series steps in to the third dimension with vivid characters and lush environments. The theme behind Dawn of Mana is “touch” and players will be able to interact with the world around them. Currently Dawn of Mana is scheduled for a 2006 release.

Dirge of Cerberus – Vincent’s gun cross RPG game has him draw his gun and battle Deepground soldiers. The game unearths Vincent’s past and expands the story of Final Fantasy VII. Dirge of Cerberus is rated “T” and is set for a summer 2006 release date.

Final Fantasy XII – Featuring the new active dimension battle, gambit system and a return to Ivalice. In Final Fantasy XII players step in to a war between the Archadian Empire and the small kingdom of Dalmasca. Vaan sees the Archadian Empire as an enemy after they took the life of his brother. Through a chance encounter he runs into the least heir of the Dalamscan throne, Princess Ashe. Now the two must embark on a journey throughout Ivalice. Final Fantasy XII is scheduled for a fall 2006 release.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria – Set hundreds of years before Lenneth, Silmeria once served Odin until she was forced to become a human. Her soul was carried by Alicia the Princess of Dipan. Now her dormant spirit is summoned and Alicia has two souls awakened in her body. Valkyrie Profile 2 has the photon action system added to the side-scrolling battles in the PS1 game. Also added in are “sealstones” that change the law of nature within the dungeons. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmera is coming out in 2006.

Game Boy Advance

Final Fantasy V / Final Fantasy VI – New elements are going to be added to these games so they aren’t just Super Nintendo ports. “With new dungeons, new job classes, and other exciting features, both old-school players and newcomers can enjoy these genre-defining Final Fantasy titles in a portable format”. Both of these will be released in 2006, but only playable trailers of the games will be shown.

Nintendo DS

Children of Mana – In the island of Illusia resides an ancient tree and the Sword of Mana. Children of Mana continues the legend of Mana and brings back eight elemental spirits to help players along their quest. The game adds in local wi-fi play for up to four players. Children of Mana is currently scheduled for a 2006 release.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime – When we heard Square-Enix register this name we guessed they were bringing over Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2. Help Rocket the Slime save the inhabitants of Slimenia after the Plob kidnap all of the slimes in Boingburg. Rocket needs to master the use of the ancient Schleiman Tank and bounce his way around the Kingdom. DQH: Rocket Slime is scheduled for a 2006 release.

Final Fantasy III – The only Final Fantasy game that hasn’t been released in North America is getting a huge makeover. Once an NES game, Final Fantasy III is now reborn as 3D Nintendo DS title. This will be the first time Final Fantasy III is playable and the game is scheduled for a 2006 release.

Playstation Portable

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth – Originally released for the PS1, Valkyrie Profile gets a remake for the PSP. Lenneth has the ability to hear the thoughts of people in their dying moments. To tie the game in with Silmeria, Lenneth has additional CG cutscenes. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is also scheduled for a 2006 release.

Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan – With new classes like the Puppetmaster and Blue Mage, the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expands the Final Fantasy XI universe. The game is available in stores as of now.
