Atlus is giving us one on March 10. Tokyo Beat Down is actually game we mentioned before when Success released under the name Yajuu Keiji, which literally translates to Beast Detective. In the US version Lewis Cannon and his team are known as the “Beast Cops” because they let their fists and guns do the talking.
Tokyo Beat Down has 3D graphics, but it plays like Final Fight with guns. The streets are littered with weapons like pistols, shotguns, submachine guns. All of these are at your disposal if you find them on the ground next to life restoring hamburgers.
Usually, I would carelessly flip through a story in a beat ’em up, but Atlus promises Tokyo Beat Down is going to have “madcap humor and sharply-written dialogue” with an over-the-top 70’s cop show style. The story branches too with multiple endings to find which should give Tokyo Beat Down more replay value than other games in the genre. Sounds good to me, but I was already sold on Tokyo Beat Down months ago based on the campy vigilante detective setting.
