Rosario to Vampire introduces sliding arrow combat

rtv.jpgCapcom announced they picked up the license to Rosario to Vampire months ago. I’m not a regular reader of high school supernatural romance manga, but from the little I understood about the series I presumed it would be some kind of dating adventure game. To my surprise, Capcom included a creative combat system designed for the Nintendo DS. Instead of pressing buttons, you make directional swipes with the stylus to input commands.

As a vehicle for game development, I’m genuinely intrigued by this control scheme. Imagine a fighting game where you draw lines to do combos as an alternative to pressing buttons. A drawing system is more plastic since you don’t have to rely on X buttons. Unique squiggles can represent each attack. Since the technology is in the hands of Capcom I guess this is possible too. This might even sway some people to give Rosario to Vampire a chance when it comes out on March 20 in Japan and only Japan. Capcom of America has no plans on releasing this in North America and I can’t blame them for making that decision.
