Ryan Reynolds Cast As Detective Pikachu In Upcoming Movie, Pika Pika

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds is set to steal the spotlight in the upcoming live-action Detective Pikachu movie as the titular yellow mouse Pokemon.

Reynolds joins the cast of the movie, which currently includes Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton. It is set to be written by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch. Reynolds plays Detective Pikachu, a hard-boiled, snarky version of Pikachu that can speak humans’ language, but cannot use electricity.

The story starts off when Smith’s character’s father ends up getting kidnapped, and Smith has to team up with Pikachu to track him down.

Detective Pikachu is inspired by the Great Detective Pikachu Nintendo 3DS game released in Japan in 2016.
