Sega’s first music game hit was Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, but they can’t rely on the Vocaloid idol forever. In Japan, they have a new arcade game called Maimai.

You play Maimai by hitting the eight buttons on the corner of the screen. There are notes you have to tap, hold, double notes (where you need to use both hands), and slide notes which has players follow the note across the screen as it moves from one button to the next. Maimai’s big selling point is you can upload a performance from the arcade machine right on to Nico Nico.

Maimai caught my attention when I saw a Virtua Fighter remix and other Sega songs on the list. Machines updated with the "Extend" track list have: Jacky’s remix from Virtua Fighter, Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure theme song, Show Time (also from Rhythm Thief), and the catchy theme song from Feel the Magic XX/XY. I played Jacky’s remix at the hardest difficulty level and it’s pretty tough with double notes, half-beat notes, and hold notes flying all over the place.
