GungHo Online Entertainment recently announced Seventh Rebirth, and while we’re waiting on the October 20 full reveal, this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine provides more details. [Thanks, Hachima.]

The magazine reveals Seventh Rebirth is a free-to-play smartphone RPG that launches in Japan in Fall 2016. Here are some of its key staff members:

  • Executive Producer: Kazuki Morishita
  • Producer: Hiromichi Tanaka
  • Director: Takashi Hirose
  • Music: Yasunori Mitsuda
  • Scenario: Nobuyuki Inoue
  • Koji Tsuda

Seventh Rebirth takes place in a world that sees a cycle of destruction and rebirth every 1,000 years. The player takes on the role of a mayor in charge of developing a town.

The game flow starts out with adventure preparation in town. From there, you’ll head to new areas and dungeons from the world map.

There are various facilities to build in town, including some that helps out in battles or some for making money or producing materials. You’ll travel to the world map seamlessly. There are all kinds of dungeons and you’ll take them on with the villagers to further develop the town. You’ll also get to find rare items in the dungeons.

The starting jobs are Fighter, Priest, Wizard, and Ranger. There are other advanced classes, including Monk, Ninja, and Paladin.

In an interview with the staff, producer Hiromichi Tanaka said that he’s been going in and out of the hospital, but he’s feeling better now. The reason Tanaka joined GungHo started during a testimonial dinner hosted by Enterbrain back in January of 2012, where he met Kazuki Morishita. He already decided on leaving Square Enix at the time, and they had a talk about working on something together.

“The game started out with talk about if there are any new kinds of MMORPGs geared for smartphone,” said Morishita.

Tanaka added, “It is basically being made to be a very orthodox RPG. Instead of something shiny, we’re making it into a fun and fleshed out game.”

“This time, it’s not just GungHo, but also a multitude of staff involved. It’s basically a GungHo all-stars with a collection of excellent staff,” said Morishita with a laugh. He also mentioned that he hopes to see the game release soon so the talented programmers could get back to their previous projects. For those reasons, Morishita feels that they have a high-quality product in Seventh Rebirth.
