Sky Kid gets caught in the WiiWare storm

Unlike Japan, Nintendo is mixing up Mondays with a steady stream of Virtual Console releases and WiiWare games in North America. This week Critter Round-Up from Konami and Star Solider R are the brand new titles. Both are bound to get much attention than poor Sky Kid, a NES port of a Namco arcade game released by Sunsoft in North America. Sky Kid and its pixilated planes cost 500 points ($5).

Suddenly, Star Solider R for 300 Wii Points more (a total of $8) sounds much more interesting in comparison. Despite Star Solider R’s woefully short length I’m positive I would play it more than Sky Kid. Critter Round-Up is probably the best bang for your buck out of the three even though it’s the most expensive game this week at 1,000 Wii Points ($10).

I like the battle between the new and the old. This match up seems like a no brainer, but I’m curious to see what people pick when Nintendo lines up a retro classic against software developed specifically for the Wii. WiiWare versus Virtual Console, fight!
