Sony will now be launching six live service games by financial year 2025. This is a reduction from the twelve the company originally planned for the same period. The decision to do so followed a consultation with Destiny 2 developer Bungie, who reviewed the status of the current games. The six delayed games have been pushed back due to concerns over quality.

During the earnings call, Totoki confirmed that the company is still committed to a large library of live service games. He reiterated that the delayed games will remain part of a long term strategy at Sony to bring a range of live service titles to PlayStation. Bungie are a major part of this, with their experience with Destiny guiding much of the company’s direction.

The company demonstrated this push towards live service games heavily in recent months. The May 2023 PlayStation Showcase already confirmed titles such as Helldivers 2, Fairgame$, Concord and a reboot of Bungie’s sci-fi shooter Marathon as part of this. Multiplayer titles set in the Horizon and The Last of Us universes are also confirmed, along with an original IP from London Studio. It’s unknown which of these projects are among the delayed games.
