Back in October 2017, at Paris Games Week 2017, Mossmouth announced Spelunky 2. Then, in 2018, the PlayStation 4 and PC game was assigned a tentative 2019 release window. Now, Mossmouth founder Derek Yu has said Spelunky 2 will be delayed on Twitter. Specifically, he said, “Unfortunately, I don’t think we’re going to get to release Spelunky 2 this year.”

Yu noted that Spelunky 2 progress is going well, but “the density and detail of the game is demanding more time.” He also noted that when Mossmouth isn’t offering updates, it is because they are busy working on the game and said that more contrast and details are being added to make everything “pop.”

In Spelunky 2, players will once again be delving into different caves and trying to survive for as long as possible. Early screenshots have shown some of the new spelunkers, like the new heroine and a sloth.

Spelunky 2 is in development for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
