Square-Enix’s DS software for the Touch Generations crowd

After Nintendo’s success with the Touch Generations series more companies are developing software, not games, for the Nintendo DS. Square-Enix is the latest company to try this approach and they have a new “DS Style” brand to promote these games. There are ten titles currently in development:

Why Not Listen to Classical Music on the DS

Flower Blooming DS: Gardening Life

DS Yoga Lessons: You Can Start Today (tentative name)

World Walking: France (a pocket travel guide)

World Walking: Italy

World Walking: Thailand

World Walking: New York

World Walking: Hawaii

World Walking: Taiwan

See details about these titles and screenshots past the break.

World Walking guides for France, Italy and Thailand are scheduled to come out this summer and the second set of World Walking guides are scheduled for the fall. If you were hoping that a chocobo would show you the way to the Statue of Liberty you might be let down. The World Walking titles are based on a multimillion selling series of travel guides and Square-Enix is adapting them to the DS.

Inis, who developed Gitaroo Man and Elite Beat Agents, is the developer of Why Not Listen to Classical Music on the DS, which seems fitting since they are rooted in music. The classical music title has 100 songs from famous musicians with trivia about the songs. It looks like Inis is trying to create a portable music appreciation course.

Flower Blooming DS: Gardening Life starts by testing the player’s gardening knowledge. After the test Gardening Life teaches you how to care for your flowers throughout the year. Information on over 260 plants and pictures are stored in Gardening Life.
