We haven’t had a main Valkyrie Profile game since its second installment in 2006, and Star Ocean 5 producer Shuichi Kobayashi mentioned that he already has proposal plans written up for the third game on his PC. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

The comment comes from a recent Dengeki Online livestream that took place just before the release of the game in Japan, where they featured the Valkyrie Profile 2 battle BGM that’s in Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, followed by talks on the hopes of releasing Valkyrie Profile 3.

When asked, Kobayashi bluntly said “if it doesn’t sell, then we can’t make a sequel” but he shared his personal frustration on being told that the game would have it rough in terms of market.

Kobayashi also added “if only people started playing all kinds of different games, then there might be a way to survive” which was followed by a comment from Dengeki staff saying “then we can have the third V__, or also the sixth S____.” This is when Kobayashi mentioned “Honestly speaking, I have written proposal plans for it on my computer. Hurry and let me show it!” The Dengeki staff was pretty surprised with that, saying “is it really okay to mention that on here!?”

So there you have it. We probably won’t see Valkyrie Profile 3 anytime soon, but if there’s a change in the marketplace or if fans show enough desire for it, then Square Enix just may change their mind on making the third installment that we’ve all been waiting for.
