Street Fighter X Tekken 600,000 Units Short Of Sales Expectations

Capcom mentioned in their earnings report last night that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was “performing steadily” while Street Fighter X Tekken was underperforming. Just how much did the two games actually sell?

As of March 31st, Operation Raccoon City had sold 1.7 million copies, according to Capcom sales data. That doesn’t include sales in Japan, where the game was released in late April. Counting Japanese sales, the game is somewhere in the range of 2 million sold worldwide.

Last year, Capcom announced their sales expectations for a number of games, Operation Raccoon City included. The game was expected to sell 2 million worldwide by March 31st. While it technically didn’t hit 2 million by that date, it also wasn’t release “worldwide,” since Japan got the game a month later. Capcom’s wording in their estimates leaves a little bit of room for debate.

Operation Raccoon City was much closer to Capcom’s estimates than Street Fighter X Tekken, however. Street Fighter X Tekken was expected to sell 2 million copies worldwide by March 31st, but only sold 1.4 million, meaning the game underperformed by about 600,000 copies.

On the bright side, Monster Hunter Tri G beat expectations. Capcom’s forecast for Tri G was 1.2 million by the end of the fiscal year, and the game ended up at 1.6 million instead.
