The Return to New York hack for the NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aims to give each of the turtles a more pronounced role in combat, altering their attacks and strengths to better reflect certain encounter types.

Choice of turtle will alter more than range in this hack. Here, Leonardo makes for the best all-around fighter, Raphael has been improved for single combat against powerful enemies, Michaelangelo has been changed to better suit speed and tricky jumps, and Donatello still works at extreme range (as well as in some special situations requiring intelligence). These new roles are established through changes to attacks, health, speed, jump control, special weapons use, and defense.

The hack makes a few further changes, such as adding a save feature, making it faster to swap turtles in combat, rewriting much of the in-game text to better reflect the story taking place in New York, and some minor graphical tweaks and challenge tweaks.
