Sega revealed its April Fools’ Day 2023 surprise an actual game called The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. It is a free adventure game for PCs. It is immediately available via Steam. When Sonic dies at Amy Rose’s murder mystery birthday party, it is up to the player to find out what happened.
In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, players are an original character who works for The Mirage Express. Amy Rose and all of the characters from the Sonic series showed up for her birthday party there. However, Sonic is the victim and dead. It’s up to Barry to interrogate attendees, investigate the scene, and find out what happened. It also looks like there’s a “DreamGear” minigame that lets people play a Sonic game with the same sort of perspective as SegaSonic the Hedgehog.
Here’s the official trailer for the game. It shows both the player character and Tails at work. It also starts with Sega’s message of, “We’ve heard your feedback. Yes… all of it. We now have a bold new direction for the future of Sonic the Hedgehog. We’re excited to announce he’s dead.”
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is now available for free for PCs on Steam.
