The latest Doom WAD from “TerminusEst13” is called DemonSteele, and it’s said to be a love letter to “retro games, 80s/90s anime, and early heavy metal.” The result plays like something Hideki Kamiya would make.

It’s a complete overhaul of id’s classic first-person shooter Doom that turns it into a fast-paced hack ‘n’ slasher. Armed with a katana, impossible agility, and a strength unmatched, you essentially become the untouchable badass out of an anime movie.

The WAD rewards you for slicing down masses of enemies without taking any damage. The more you’re able to keep this up the more powerful you become, being able to use special moves that, as you can see in the video, are capable of clearing a packed room of demons in a single swipe of your blade.

To this end, you have enhanced movement, including dodging and rocket jumping,  and are most effective when moving in up close to enemies and slicing them in half. You won’t have any rewards for hanging back and picking enemies off with your gun.

You can download the current version of DemonSteele on the Doomworld forums. Obviously, you’ll need GZDoom or Zandronum to run it, as well as a copy of Doom.
