Last week, Japan had several releases including the anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – MARS, and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of September 3 to September 9, 2018.

If you guessed Marvel’s Spider-Man as the top-selling title, you’re absolutely right, as it topped the charts by a landslide with a whopping 125,154 units sold on PS4 in its debut to take the #1 spot. Last week’s top title, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, charted at #2 with 20,840 units sold on PS4.

The next new title of the week is Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – MARS at #3 with 17,313 units sold to make for a PS4 hat-trick for the top-3, which hasn’t happened for a while now. At #4 we have Minecraft on Switch with 14,752 units sold in the week, followed by Splatoon 2 at #5 with 14,398 units sold and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #5 with 11,877 units sold.

The next new entry of the week is SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy which sold 10,018 units on PS4 to chart at #7 and 5,493 units on Switch to chart at #13, combining for 15,511 units between the two. It continues the trend of fighting games selling better on PS4 for the most part while other releases have recently been leaning towards Switch when given the choice.

At #11 we have Persona 5 New Price Edition which sold 6,280 units on PS4. This is basically just the same game at a lower price and different SKU. And lastly, NBA 2K19 charted at #20 with 3,679 units sold on PS4.

Hardware sales didn’t change by much, but we did see an increase of about 3k for the PS4 Pro compared to the week prior, which we can attribute to the Spider-Man hype train. The PS4 sold 12,281 units and the PS4 Pro sold 7,442 to combine for 19,723 units sold between the two. The Nintendo Switch, however, still remains the best-selling hardware by far with 43,513 units sold in the week, which is about 59.5% of all console sales. Going by Media Create’s figures, the Nintendo Switch is currently at 4,935,691 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
