Ghoulboy, a 2D platformer about a boy defeating ghosts, ghouls, and other evil monsters, will let players put their weapons to work on more than just fighting beasts, having players make clever use of their tools to also platform and find secrets.
Ghoulboy is an homage to games like Castlevania and Ghosts n’ Goblins, having players wander a haunted countryside filled with all manner of undead and gothic monsters. To defeat them, players can pick up an array of swords, daggers, spears, and other weapons, lashing out at melee range or at a distance with those tools. However, some of these weapons are in finite supply, so players will have to make the most of each hit.
Players can use their limited tools as more than just weapons, though. Specifically, the spear will allow players to create a temporary platform when it strikes a wall, which players can use to find alternate routes and hidden areas. These, as well as some puzzling environments, can hide treasures that players can spend on greater health and other benefits, encouraging players to fully explore these grim, pixellated areas.
Ghoulboy is available now on iTunes, Google Play, and Steam.
