Tomb Raider Anniversary: Fresh coat of paint with no substance?

This article is over 18 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s hard to believe that Tomb Raider was such a big deal a few years back. Eidos ran the franchise into the ground with sub-par movies and less than stellar games (I’m looking at you Angel of Darkness). What’s worse is the action genre evolved from being a scavenger hunt to intense shooters and acrobatic combat as seen in the Prince of Persia series. Eidos’ latest Tomb Raider game is “a new Tomb Raider adventure for Lara. Inspired by the original Tomb Raider video game.” So it’s pretty much a remake of Tomb Raider with PS2 graphics, improved AI and a few new areas to explore. Fans might appreciate the new visuals, but if Eidos really wanted to wow their loyal fanbase wouldn’t the PS3 or Xbox 360 be a more logical choice? Here’s the teaser video, it fails to impress me, but maybe someone else can tell me what I should look forward to in Tomb Raider Anniversary.
