After numerous runs on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and three different DVD releases (original, Geneon signature series and the collectors edition) Trigun makes its way to the PSP. Volume 1 contains the first two episodes of the series where viewers are introduced to insurance representatives Milly Thompson and Meryl Stryfe. They’re out looking for the notorious Vash the Stampede, who’s responsible for the damage.
Although they don’t have a clue what Vash looks like. Is he a hardened cowboy or just an unlucky wanderer? In the second episode the so-called “Vash” they meet is hired as a bodyguard to protect a tycoon who controls the water supply of a small town. Since the world of Trigun is a desert planet the town is economically crippled, which is why the water plant owner needs a tough bodyguard. Is this really Vash that’s helping him?
The PSP disc is similar to the original Geneon DVD release. The movie is presented in letterbox format instead of widescreen. You can listen to either the English track or the original Japanese track with English subtitles. There aren’t any extras on the disc except for a few trailers, but one thing to point out to the fans is about the opening. Instead of using the individual openings for each episode like the Collector’s edition, the UMD version uses the same intro from Episode 1 for both episodes on the disc. If you’re a purist you might want to pick up the Collector’s edition discs instead of the UMD since they contain the original Japanese openings.
