Yasumi Matsuno Is Being Coy About Vagrant Story on Twitter

The latest update to Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers came with a new line of story quests called Save the Queen, and there’s something a little special about this quest line. Namely, Yasumi Matsuno helped create the scenario, and it’s connected to Final Fantasy XIV‘s Return to Ivalice storyline. Matsuno, who has been The Ivalice Guy for years now, found an opportunity to drop a Vagrant Story sequel tease on Twitter.

Matsuno was specifically on Twitter to ask fans outside of Japan for feedback on his Save the Queen scenario. A fan chimed up to offer their opinion, and inadvertently sparked a nod from Matsuno to the cult classic Vagrant Story. He noted a certain aspect of Save the Queen came from a Vagrant Story sequel concept he’s had on the shelf for decades.

Naturally, the tweet drew some attention, and another fan teased Matsuno about wanting that sequel. Matsuno then did that thing creators sometimes do when they try to light a bit of a fire for their pet projects. See for yourselves:

This could very well be in jest, but with Matsuno’s continued work in the Ivalice setting over the years, including this new storyline in Final Fantasy XIV, it would make sense if he’s gunning to come back to Vagrant Story. Square Enix is certainly not above returning to its more experimental titles lately, for what it’s worth.

Vagrant Story launched on the PlayStation back in 2000. It is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers is available for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
