As some of you might remember, Viz have a manga app on the iPad, which is home to series such as Bakuman, Naruto and Ouran High School Host Club. This app is now being extended to the iPhone and iPod Touch as well, and Viz are commemorating the launch with a sale.

Publishers Weekly report that Viz are offering the first volumes of certain series at a discounted price of $2.99 through midnight on May 9th, PST. This is a 40% discount on the regular price of $4.99. Additionally, two new series have been added to the app in the form of Natsume Ono’s House of Five Leaves and not Simple.

Interestingly, Viz VP, Alvin Lu, says that feedback to Viz’s one-time experiment with releasing certain books in digital format before their print versions has been met with positive feedback. The response to digital was larger than Viz anticipated, but at the same time, there was no impact on print sales.
