I never had any doubts about seeing Star Solider R outside of Japan considering the game includes world leaderboards. Why would Hudson set up world rankings if they planned to keep Star Solider R in Japan only? Also Star Soldier R was rated by the ESRB last month, another telltale sign an announcement was looming.
It’s official now. Hudson Entertainment will release Star Solider R on WiiWare and it is exactly like the Japanese version. Star Solider R includes the same three modes: 2-minute, 5-minute and quick shot. I covered these in detail last month with hands on impressions. Even though Star Soldier R is getting a lot of flack, it’s mainly because of the price. Paying 800 Wii Points ($8) is too much for Star Solider R, especially when Super Star Solider only costs 600 Wii Points ($6). If Star Solider R was 400 Wii Points or maybe even 500 people would feel more satisfied with the purchase. Hudson has not announced the price of Star Solider R for North America at this time.
Will Star Soldier R be one of the WiiWare launch titles for North America on May 15? Hudson didn’t mention that either. It is unclear if other Japanese launch games like Dr. Mario & Germ Buster, the US title for Dr. Mario & Saikin Bokumetsu, and Critter Round Up (aka Saku Saku Animal Panic) will be launch games either.
