Last week, Japan saw several new releases with key titles in Battlefield 1, Mario Party: Star Rush, Macross Delta Scramble, Reco Love, Idol Death Game TV, and more. Here’s the latest from Japanese sales tracker Media Create’s latest data on software and hardware that sold from the week of October 17 through October 23, 2016.

#1 of the week goes to the DICE-developed Battlefield 1 by EA, which managed to sell 113,081 copies on PS4 in its Japanese debut. That’s a less than Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4’s debuts which released on both PS4 and PS3, it tops the sales of previous title Battlefield: Hardline’s two versions combined.

Here’s a better look at how the Battlefield games have performed in recent years:

  • (2011) Battlefield 3 – 151,102 (123,378 – PS3 | 27,723 – X360)
  • (2013-2014) Battlefield 4 – 146,498 (121,699 – PS3 | 24,799 – PS4)
  • (2015) Battlefield: Hardline – 96,799 (28,976 – PS3 | 68,832 – PS4)
  • (2016) Battlefield 1 – 113,081 (PS4)

Next, we have Mario Party: Star Rush at #2 with 26,473 sold in its first week. Considering how the previous title, Mario Party 10, which sold 50,212 copies on Wii U in its debut, and not to mention the previous handheld entry from the series in Mario Party: Island Tour that opened at 132,668 on 3DS, this is a significant drop for a Mario Party title in Japan no matter how you look at it. It seems like the Japanese have partied too hard and are on a Mario Party hangover for now. We’ll likely see things change up a bit when Nintendo eventually makes one for Nintendo Switch.

At #4 we have Bandai Namco’s flight-based action game in Macross Delta Scramble, which started its debut at 24,607 units sold on PS Vita. Reco Love, Kadokawa Games’ PS Vita love simulation game by Photo Kano producer Ichiro Sugiyama made #5 with 16,171 units sold between its Blue Ocean and Gold Beach version.

Following at #6 is NBA 2K17 by 2K Sports sold 9,777 units for its debut on PS4. D3 Publisher also released their Idolmaster meets Danganronpa game in Idol Death Game TV for PS Vita, but its sales weren’t anywhere near as great as the two popular series, as it debuted with 5,822 copies sold to chart at #9. And finally, we have our weekly otome PS Vita visual novel from Idea Factory’s brand Otomate with Suran Digit, which placed #15 with 3,672 copies sold in its first week.

As far as hardware sales go, there wasn’t anything too exciting, but if you want exciting, the Xbox One went up from 323 units last week to 752 units this week. The PlayStation VR’s numbers are also not available, so perhaps that was just a little something for its launch week that we got to see in the last report.
