Last week, Japan had several ports, new versions, and upgrades as new titles including Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on PS4, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.Japanese sales tracker Media Create shares a look at software and hardware sales data from the week of May 22 through May 28, 2017.

Let’s jump right into the top of the chart for the week, and it’s none other than Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana’s PlayStation 4 version, which ended up releasing a couple months short of a year since its PS Vita version after a few delays. Ys VIII debuted on PS Vita with 43,753 units sold. The 27,741 units that sold for the PS4 debut might look like a lot less, but it’s actually some of the better numbers we’ve seen coming from a PS Vita-to-PS4 title that we’ve seen in recent years.

We can attribute this to the fact that in addition to more story, gameplay elements, and other extra content in the new PS4 version, the original PS Vita version had some framerate issues and other problems that have been fixed for the new version. It’s also worth mentioning that the previous entry in the series Ys Seven debuted with 33,000 copies sold on PSP back in September 2009. Ys : Memories of Celceta sold 42,000 on its debut in 2012. When you put the PS4 and PS Vita versions together, we’re still seeing a rise for the beloved action RPG series. It also managed to narrowly beat Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to the finish line for the top spot, as the Nintendo racer hit 26,993 units for the week to take #2.

At #3 we have Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers with 16,404 units sold in its debut. I’m pretty sure its high price in Japan (as well as the rest of the world) had something to do with its low but somewhat expected sales figures. It’s also the grandfather of fighting games that has been ported and enhanced since the beginning of time, but I’m sure you guys all saw it coming so nothing too surprising there.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 charted at #5 with 10,609 units sold on PS4. That’s lower than Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator’s debut of 27,214 units (17,829 on PS4 and 9,385 on PS3), or Guilty Gear Xrd –Sign-‘s debut of 39,916 copies, but let’s not forget that this doesn’t include the upgrade purchases that allows those who own Revelator to jump to Rev 2 at a lower price. That, and the PS3 version didn’t go retail, so that’s at least a few thousand in sales. Everything considered, those aren’t great numbers for Rev 2, but it’s not as bad as it may seem, especially for the third version of the Xrd series.

One more new release managed to squeak by and it was Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII with Power-Up Kit, which sold 2,831 on its debut for PS Vita to chart at #15. Considering the game just released on the newer Nintendo Switch console, it’s easy to see why it wasn’t so hot on PS Vita in terms of sales.

Hardware sales remained mostly the same as the week prior with a tiny increase for all PlayStation platforms. The Nintendo Switch also saw a small increase with 27,146 in total sales, putting it at 902,134 units sold in Japan to date going by Media Create’s numbers. It doesn’t seem like it’ll be that much longer until it hits the million milestone in Japan, especially with some of its big titles coming out this summer plus any new announcements we can expect to hear around E3 2017.
