Rune Factory 4 makes a few significant changes to the game’s dating system. Instead of falling in love and getting married right away, you’re allowed to be girlfriend and boyfriend before tying the knot. During this stage, you can spend time with your lover, and the Doki Doki Zoom system comes into play.

“Doki-doki” is the Japanese sound effect for your heart beating. The Doki Doki Zoom feature kicks in during a romantic scene when you and partner grow closer, so you can get a better look at them.

Don’t go getting the wrong idea though; Doki Doki Zoom scenes aren’t naughty. Judging by screenshots, they’re more innocent and romantic, such as while fishing together, or playing the piano or even talking. Above is one such scene with Margaret, and below, you have Vishnal with the female protagonist, Frey.
