Usually Stacker machines have junk like budget PS2 games and if you’re lucky an iPod shuffle. One of the Stacker machines in the Metreon has a killer prize, a Nintendo DS Lite that you could win for a mere dollar. Now before you sink any money into Stacker know that it isn’t completely skill based. The point of the game is to stack rows of blocks by pressing a button to make them drop. It’s really easy when you start since blocks are four or three pieces long. As you move up the chain you only have one block to stack and you can’t miss putting it on your growing tower. When you get all the way to the final block the game cheats by not stopping a block when you press the button. The reason behind this is Stacker can be programmed to give prizes based on a set play ratio and not the player’s skill. You’re probably not going to get it on your first, second, third or tenth try, but what about your 50th? A DS Lite at that price sounds tempting… but then again there is no gurantee that you’re going to even get the DS Lite as a prize if you’re lucky enough to win one of the major prizes.
