One feature I always appreciated in Tecmo’s Monster Rancher series was how you gained access to new monsters. You don’t “catch” them like in Pokemon, you create them from CDs, DVDs or in the case of the Game Boy Advance spin offs use words. Monster Farm DS 2 goes a step further by adding in handwriting recognition. As the screenshot demonstrates you can create Suezos by writing letters in the six spaces above.
The other input methods from Monster Farm Jamboree like speech recognition and drawing can be used in the sequel too. Oh, that’s right this is a sequel. Tecmo never got around to localizing Monster Farm DS outside of Japan where it came out around a year ago. Monster Farm DS 2 comes out on August 7 in Japan and only Japan at this time. However, it looks like Tecmo was at least considering localizing Monster Farm DS under the name Monster Farm Jamboree. Perhaps, we’ll get this instead since the game is already designed to recognize handwritten English letters.
