Here are the highlights from the interview with Monolith Soft president Tetsuya Takahashi:

  • The first production studio was split into three parts. One worked on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, another worked on a new title, and the third group worked on both.
  • Tetsuya Takahashi felt bad about the character graphics, so they’ve been improved for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
  • Since the game is a remaster, they didn’t get to re-record the music with an orchestra. However, they’ve instead rearranged and improved on music quality.
  • The data compression is mitigated better compared to Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Sound quality has also improved.
  • You can play the Future Connected scenario from the very start of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
  • When Tetsuya Takahashi played it, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition‘s Future Connected felt around 10 to 12 hours. He also added that it might be somewhere around 20 hours if you do all the side quests and such.
  • The director mentioned that they could have probably added more volume had it been a paid DLC, however, using up too many resources would also affect the new title.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will release for the Nintendo Switch on May 29, 2020. Check out details on the Ponspectors here and the new Time Attack mode here.
