On April 16th, Nintendo released Style Savvy 3 in Japan and the game sold 55,179 copies in its first week. As previously reported, that’s a little lower than the previous game in the series, Style Savvy: Trendsetters, which debuted at 65,908 sold.
When launch sales figures for Style Savvy 3 were released, we theorized that the game was only just getting started, since Style Savvy is a brand known for having a long tail. Japanese sales tracker Media Create echoed this sentiment in their supplementary report, adding that the Golden Week holiday should help push sales along this week.
After the release of Style Savvy: Trendsetters, Nintendo released an updated version of the game, titled Style Savvy: Trendsetters – Tokimeki UP! This version of the game contained all DLC that had been released for Trendsetters and was released prior to Golden Week last year. As a result of the Golden Week boost, Tokimeki UP! sold 15,000 copies from April 28th – May 11th—higher than its weekly average of 12,000 copies.
Given that Style Savvy 3 is the next numbered game in the series, the Golden Week effect should theoretically help give it a boost as well. Media Create say that Trendsetters (not including the Tokimeki UP!) release went on to sell 381,000 copies over the course of its life, so they expect Style Savvy 3 to manage over 300,000 sold as well, provided it can maintain health long-term sales like its predecessors.
As for why Style Savvy 3 saw a lower debut than Trendsetters, you can read our theory in last week’s sales column.
