Yuji Naka Reacts to Yu Miyake’s Internal Transfer in Square Enix

Yuji Naka made a new tweet on his personal social media account in reaction to the news about the internal transfers in Square Enix. The article highlighted the transfer of long-time Dragon Quest series producer Yu Miyake to a new studio that will focus on mobile games.

The tweet revealed that Naka still harbors negative feelings towards Yu Miyake, following the numerous court trials held between himself and Square Enix. At the same time, Naka also gave positive remarks about Takashi Kiryu, who replaced Yosuke Matsuda as the company’s president in June 2023.

Yuji Naka’s new tweet is available to view right below:

And our translation of the tweet is as follows:

I feel like saying “Finally, huh.” This person submitted a memo written with lies (and there is proof [of that]) at the trial, so I wish he’d be gone sooner. The person who became the new president may be a good person, even though I had never met him.

Yuji Naka

Although Yuji Naka was best known for co-producing Sonic the Hedgehog at Sega, his brief stint at Square Enix from 2018 sparked many controversies. He was involved in the development of Balan Wonderworld which came out in March 2021, but he left Square Enix soon afterward at the end of April 2021.

The exit was not amicable either, as Yuji Naka later revealed that Square Enix removed him from the Balan Wonderworld director role six months before its release, as he sued the company in April 2022. In late 2022, Yuji Naka ended up getting arrested twice for two separate insider trading scandals that involved the companies Aiming Inc. and Ateam Entertainment Inc.

Yuji Naka is serving a four-year suspended sentence that the Tokyo District Court handed over to him in July 2023. If he violates the rules during the probation period, he will have to serve time in prison for 2.5 years.
