Izanagi Games premiered the official announcement trailer for Yurukill: The Calumniation Games during TGS 2021. The video revealed a Yurukill localization, confirming a global release window of 2022. The trailer also shared gameplay and the main cast of characters. NIS America will be handling the English localization of the game.
Yurukill‘s premise revolves around the falsely accused Sengoku Shunju being thrown into a deadly amusement park called Yurukill Land. From there, he’s forced to survive various attractions alongside other Prisoners in order to receive pardons for his crimes and earn his freedom.

There are several chapters in the game, each one divided into Adventure and Stage sections. Adventure One requires you to investigate attractions and solve puzzles to push forward the story. Adventure Two is the cross-examination, in which Prisoners must choose the proper responses to their Executioners’ questions to avoid death.
Stage One requires both Prisoners and Executioners to pilot Yurukill Fighters. They will battle each other in a Brain Reality (BR) firefight that puts their lives on the line. Stage Two, on the other hand, is a high-speed quiz game that can grant you extra lives in the BR sections. Finally, Stage Three puts you in a bullet-hell shoot-’em-up. There’s also Score Attack mode, which lets players choose their Prisoner and stage, and Ranked Score Attack mode, which allows players to beat their own best score or rank online against other players.
Homura Kawamoto, the writer behind Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, penned Yurukill‘s story. Character designs are by Valkyria Revolution‘s Hiro Kiyohara, and Monster Hunter‘s Yuko Komiyama composed the game’s music.
Preorders for the limited edition of NIS America’s Yurukill localization are now live. The deluxe set will cost $89.99. In addition to the physical game, it includes a collector’s book, a hardcover artbook, a CD soundtrack, a Binko acrylic stand, a cloth poster, and a team pin.
Yurukill: The Calumniation Games will launch globally in 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. More information is available on the official English Yurukill site.
