Kingdom Hearts: ten million strong and growing

By Spencer . December 28, 2006 . 9:43am

Who would have ever thought a Disney and Final Fantasy mashup would be a smash hit? To date the Kingdom Hearts series sold ten million copies worldwide. That number includes the PS2 games and all reprints, Chain of Memories for the GBA and Kingdom Hearts II which came out last year. Next year Square-Enix is going to release Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ in Japan, which is an extended version of KH II with the English voice actors for 7,890 yen ($66). The Kingdom Hearts series eventually has to have a limit. How many more Disney worlds can Sora explore before the team ups seem ridiculous?

Squeenix has a lotta movies to get through before Kingdom Hearts runs out of steam. Sword in the Stone, Finding Nemo, the Incredibles, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Gummi Bears, Gargoyles, TaleSpin, Goof Troop, The Jungle Book, Fantasia, Atlantis, Brother Bear, Treasure Planet (aweosme choice if they do use it), and after that they can start putting in Final Fantasy worlds and they can do something with Miyazaki stuff they have rights too and pull in more movies like Honey I Shrunk the Kid. It’s safe to say that Kingdom Hearts sequels will be appearing many many many years now until there is no more munny to be made

The amount of worlds possible to visit is irrelevant. They’ll always be able to rehash old worlds. And that’s not even why it was successful in my opinion, it was the ingenious way they very successfully melded the multiple movie’s together into a cohesive game. So long as they keep doing that the series will do well.

Come on, this is Square-Enix we’re talking about! They are never going to stop making Kingdom Hearts games now. By the time they’re on Dragon Warrior XV and Final Fantasy XX, they’ll at least be on Kingdom Hearts VII, not including a plethora of spin-offs.

Donald no Fushigi Dungeon, anyone?

Pesmerga00 Says:

I agree with Casey A., if anyone knows how to milk a franchise it’s Square-Enix. I don’t see Kingdom Hearts ending anytime soon.
