Details on the Onion Knight in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War

G-Para has a bunch of new screenshots from Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War. Most of them show off movie sequences where Delita Hyral kidnaps Princess Olivia and a few pictures of battle. There is one picture that is particularly interesting, a shot of the equipment of the Onion Knight. The Onion Knight is a new class in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War and one of its main abilities is that it can learn to equip any items. The screenshot shows a male onion knight with a Mythril Spear, Aegis Shield, Diamond Helm, Light Robe and Chantage. Chantage is a perfume, designed only for female characters, but if you learn abilities with the Onion Knight a male can equip it too.

in past ff games, onion _____ have always been the weakest characters and denotes a “beginning” character. perhaps this is just meant to be a toy class and not have any other abilities then being able to use equipment?

Actually, Onion Knights usually start off weak and seemingly useless but end up being the best classes with a bit of work, at least in FFIII. Regardless, perhaps in FFT they’ll end up having incredible abilities to learn while having less than stellar stats, or something similar.

    “usually”
I was under the impression they were only in ff3.(and as lulus doll)
comparing the stats to the knight it looks like a starter class.
the knight is lvl10 with 5-move 3-jump and the onion knight is lvl 16 and has 3-move 3-jump.

In Final Fantasy Tactics classes have set movement. Thief move and jump 4, Knight move and jump 3, Geomancer move 4 and jump 3, Monk move 3 and jump 4.

However diffferent classes can learn different movement abilities. Thief learns Move +2, Squire Move +1, Bard (male only) Move +3.

The Knight to get move 5 must have Move +2 set, or Move +1 and battle boots (+1 movement).

They’re called Onion KNIGHTS and they gain a Job Level for every 2 classes they master. They start weak, but when you master 16 classes (so that Job level is 8) they are godly.

Uh yeah they’re not godly. They have no abilities and can’t assign any, which means all they have is the regular “attack” command. There is ridiculously good onion gear available in the multiplayer mode that can buff them up a lot, (ie the armor gives +250hp and permanent reraise, regen, protect, and shell—and the sword has an atk power of 50)

However, since they still don’t have any abilities, and they can only use the regular attack command, they are easily dealt with by shirahadori (“blade grasp”) or First Strike (“Hamedo”)

Kind of sucky. Sword Techniques are way better, so you’d be better off getting Meliadoul, Orlandu, and Agrias leveled up with some dark knight support.
